Stop guessing what your Sisterlocks need.
If your Sisterlocks feel dry soon after moisturizing, water seems to sit on the hair, or products absorb quickly and then seem to disappear, your hair porosity may be part of the reason. Hair porosity describes how easily your hair takes in and holds moisture. Understanding it can help you make clearer choices about moisture, layering, product weight, and routine.
The free Sisterlocks Hair Porosity Quiz helps you learn whether your hair may be low, medium, or high porosity. Your result is not a grade, and porosity does not measure whether your hair is healthy or unhealthy. It is simply useful information that can help you move from product confusion toward a more intentional Hair Peace routine.
Why Hair Porosity Matters for Sisterlocks
Sisterlocks are small, lightweight, and numerous, so moisture behavior can be easy to misread. Two women can use the same product and get very different results. Porosity gives you another clue about why your hair responds the way it does and what kind of routine may feel more supportive.
Your porosity is information, not a judgment. What matters most is learning how your own Sisterlocks behave, then choosing a routine that helps them feel softer, better moisturized, and easier to care for.
Quick Sisterlocks Porosity Questions
What is hair porosity?
Hair porosity is the hair's ability to absorb and retain moisture. It is influenced by the condition of the hair's outer layer, often called the cuticle. Porosity can affect how quickly water enters the hair, how long moisture lasts, and how products feel after application.
How do I know the porosity of my Sisterlocks?
Look at how your Sisterlocks behave with water and products over time. Low-porosity hair may resist moisture at first, medium-porosity hair often accepts and holds moisture with relative balance, and high-porosity hair may absorb quickly but dry out again sooner. This quiz helps you look at several signs together instead of relying on one test.
Is low or high porosity bad?
No. Low, medium, and high porosity are not good-or-bad labels. They describe moisture behavior. The goal is to understand your hair well enough to choose techniques and products that work with it rather than constantly guessing.
Why do my Sisterlocks feel dry even after I moisturize them?
Dryness can have more than one cause. Your hair may not be absorbing moisture well, or it may be losing moisture quickly after application. Product buildup, weather, coloring, cleansing habits, and the way products are layered can also affect how your Sisterlocks feel. Porosity is one useful piece of that bigger picture.
Can different parts of my Sisterlocks have different porosity?
Yes. New growth, older lengths, colored areas, gray hair, and ends can behave differently. Pay attention to patterns across your head and use your quiz result as a starting point rather than a rigid rule.
Can hair porosity change?
Yes. Porosity can change over time because of coloring, chemical processing, heat, weathering, mechanical wear, or changes in the condition of the hair. Retaking the quiz later can be useful if your Sisterlocks begin behaving differently.
Does gray hair automatically mean high porosity?
No. Gray Sisterlocks can feel drier, coarser, or more resistant, but gray hair is not automatically high porosity. Look at how your hair actually absorbs and retains moisture rather than assuming porosity from color alone.
Can porosity explain thinning, scalp pain, or hair loss?
No. Porosity describes moisture behavior; it is not a medical diagnosis and does not explain every scalp or hair concern. Sudden hair loss, scalp sores, persistent pain, or significant thinning should be discussed with an appropriate licensed health professional.
